Sammanfattning : In recent years there has been a growing interest for building lightweight multistorey wooden residential buildings in countries like Sweden with large and renewable forests. While positive aspects of these buildings, such as sustainability, ease of construction and lightness, motivate building more in wood, poor acoustic performance is a risk which concerns the wooden-building industry. Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to both theoretical and practical aspects of applied mathematics. It consists of three main parts: Part I consists of an application-oriented introduction to the theory of frames and bases for separable Hilbert spaces, as well as an introduction to the main tools used in the remaining Chapters: Time-frequency analysis, Gabor frames and wavelet frames. Sammanfattning : In this licentiate thesis we study some mathematical problems in hydrodynamic lubrication theory. It is composed of two papers (A and B) and a complementary appendix. Lubrication theory is devoted to fluid flow in thin domains. The main purpose of lubrication is to reduce friction and wear between two solid surfaces in relative motion. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Several signal processing applications today are based on the use of different transforms. The signals under consideration are written as a linear combination (or series) of some predefined set of functions. Traditionally, orthogonal bases have been used for this purpose, for example, in the discrete Fourier transform. LÄS MER
