  1. 1. Understanding West African Monsoon Variability : Insights from Paleoclimate Modelling of Past Warm Climates

    Författare :Ellen Berntell; Qiong Zhang; Alessandra Giannini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; West African Monsoon; Monsoon Variability; Paleoclimate; Climate modelling; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The Sahel, a water-vulnerable region in West Africa, relies heavily on rainfed agriculture. The region experienced pronounced droughts during the 20th Century, emphasising the socio-economic importance of understanding the drivers of the rainfall variability. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Monsoon Paper Dragons : Transparency, Accountability, Risk, and Compliance in Banking Regulation and Practice

    Författare :Shruti Kashyap; Fredrik Nilsson; Nils-Göran Olve; Einar Iveroth; Martin Messner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Accountability; Banking; Compliance; Financial Regulation; Risk Control; Transparency; Business Studies; Företagsekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation explores the overall research question of how transparency- and accountability-driven post-crisis financial regulations within the European Union (EU) have influenced risk control and compliance in banks. The dissertation consists of five substantive chapters: an introductory synthesis; a published law journal article; two published book chapters, one of which is an extensive literature review; and one working paper that has previously been presented at multiple international conferences and is currently under review with a European journal in the field of accounting. 3. 3. On the intra-seasonal to decadal climate variability over South-Asia

    Författare :Faisal Saeed Syed; Heiner Körnich; Erik Kjellström; Jagadish Shukla; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; South Asia; monsoon; western disturbances; fog; climate variability; climate dynamics; teleconnections; ENSO; NAO; CGT; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : South Asia, a land of contrasting landscapes, seasons and climates, is highly vulnerable to climate variability over intra-seasonal to decadal time scales. In winter, precipitation over the western parts of south Asia and fog over the Indo-Gangetic (IG) plains are the two major climatic features. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Författare :Mohamed Nor bin Desa Mohamed; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; velocity; vector; monsoon; Malaysia; thunderstorm; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Asian monsoon over mainland Southeast Asia in the past 25 000 years

    Författare :Akkaneewut Chabangborn; Barbara Wohlfarth; Karen Kohfeld; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asian monsoon; ITCZ; palaeo-vegetation; palaeoclimate; lake sediment; Last Glacial Maximum; Holocene; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this research is to interpret high-resolution palaeo-proxy data sets to understand the Asian summer monsoon variability in the past. This was done by synthesizing published palaeo-records from the Asian monsoon region, model simulation comparisons, and analysing new lake sedimentary records from northeast Thailand. LÄS MER
