  1. 1. Late Quaternary Biostratigraphy and Paleoceanography of the central Arctic Ocean

    Författare :Daniela Hanslik; Martin Jakobsson; Marit-Solveig Seidenkrantz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean; Quaternary; biostratigraphy; foraminifera; paleoceanography; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The central Arctic Ocean is one of the least explored deep sea regions and long biostratigraphic sediment records are sparse. The main focus of this thesis is the Arctic Ocean foraminiferal record and its application to reconstruct paleoceanographic variations and summer sea ice cover changes between late Quaternary interglacial periods. 2. 2. Mapping bathymetry : From measurement to applications

    Författare :Benjamin Hell; Martin Jakobsson; Michele Rebesco; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean and coastal mapping; Digital Bathymetric Model; Geographical Information System; Applications of bathymetric data; Baltic Sea; Arctic Ocean; Seafloor morphology; Ocean circulation; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Surface elevation is likely the most fundamental property of our planet. In contrast to land topography, bathymetry, its underwater equivalent, remains uncertain in many parts of the World ocean. Bathymetry is relevant for a wide range of research topics and for a variety of societal needs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Quaternary paleoceanography of the Arctic Ocean : A study of sediment stratigraphy and physical properties

    Författare :Emma Sellén; Martin Jakobsson; Jan Backman; Dorthe Klitgaard-Kristensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Arctic Ocean; sedimentology; Quaternary; stratigraphy; physical properties; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : A Quaternary perspective on the paleoceanographic evolution of the central Arctic Ocean has been obtained in this PhD thesis by studying sediment cores from all of the Arctic’s major submarine ridges and plateaus. The included cores were mainly recovered during the Healy-Oden Trans-Arctic expedition in 2005 and the Lomonosov Ridge off Greenland expedition in 2007. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Marine Current Resource Assessment : Measurements and Characterization

    Författare :Nicole Carpman; Karin Thomas; Mats Leijon; Sandra Eriksson; Mairead Atcheson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The increasing interest in converting energy from renewable resources into electricity has led to an increase in research covering the field of marine current energy, mainly concerning tidal currents and in-stream tidal turbines. Tides have the advantage of being predictable decades ahead. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Surface gravity waves in the world’s oceans contain a renewable source of free power on the order of terawatts that has to this date not been commercially utilized. The division of Electricity at Uppsala University is developing a technology to harvest this energy. LÄS MER
