  1. 1. Enhancement of Volatile Fatty Acid Production from Dairy Wastewater

    Författare :Merve Atasoy; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Juan Lema; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Volatile fatty acid; mixed culture fermentation; pure culture; bioaugmentation; bacterial community; Flyktiga fettsyror; jäsning med blandkultur; renkultur; bioaugmentering; bakteriesamhälle; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Resource recovery from waste-streams is a highly promising approach to meet with urbanization and modernization consequences. Rapid human population growth, expanding industrialization and excessive consumption of resources lead to increasing demand for raw materials and energy sources, and an escalation of greenhouse gas emission. 2. 2. Lactic acid production: extractive fermentation in aqueous two-phase systems

    Författare :Jordi Planes; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; gel excludion chromatography; polyethylenimine; ethylene oxide propylene oxide; phase forming polymers; aqueous two-phase systems; extractive fermentation; Lactococcus; Lactobacillus; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : There is an increased interest in the microbial production of lactic acid as a raw material for the synthesis of lactic acid polymers as biodegradable plastics. However, two factors limit the economical competitiveness of lactic acid production by microorganisms: lactic acid inhibition, which decreases both fermentation rate and the maximum lactic acid concentration, and the efficiency in the recovery of lactic acid. 3. 3. Fermented probiotic beverage based on quinoa : Functionality, hygiene, and health effects

    Författare :Pamela Rosario Canaviri Paz; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Quinoa grains; Fermentation; Lactic acid bacteria; Probiotics; Food safety; Starter culture; Polyphenol compounds; Microbiota composition; Functional food; Gut microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : White quinoa grains were used as a source of novel beneficial microorganisms and as a matrix for development of a fermented plant-based drink. Studies on the quinoa grain microbiota were performed by applying spontaneous fermentation to allow isolation of autochthonous Lactiplantibacillus strains with potential to be used as starter cultures. 4. 4. Biochemical conversion of biomass to biofuels : pretreatment–detoxification–hydrolysis–fermentation

    Författare :Venkata Prabhakar Soudham; Jyri-Pekka Mikkola; Christer Larsson; Tom Birger Granström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignocellulosic materials; Ionic liquids; Pretreatment; Inhibitors; Detoxification; Ferrous sulfate and hydrogen peroxide; reducing agents; alkaline treatments; Hydrolysis; Fermentation; Biofuels; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The use of lignocellulosic materials to replace fossil resources for the industrial production of fuels, chemicals, and materials is increasing. The carbohydrate composition of lignocellulose (i.e. cellulose and hemicellulose) is an abundant source of sugars. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Process development for platform chemical production from agricultural and forestry residues

    Författare :David Nickel; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biorefinery; pretreatment; lignocellulose; multi-feed SSCF; preadaptation; multi-scale variability analysis; platform chemicals; lactic acid; logging residues; mixed feedstocks; ethanol;

    Sammanfattning : As part of a bio-based economy, biorefineries are envisaged to sustainably produce platform chemicals via biochemical conversion of agricultural and forestry residues. However, supply risks, the recalcitrance of lignocellulosic biomass, and inhibitor formation during pretreatment impair the economic feasibility of such biorefineries. LÄS MER
