11. Functional and structural studies of the Presequence protease, PreP
Sammanfattning : AtPreP (Arabidopsis thaliana Presequence Protease) is a zink metallooligopeptidase that is dually targeted to both mitochondria and chloroplasts. In these organelles it functions as a peptidasome that degrades the N-terminal targeting peptides that are cleaved off from the mature protein after protein import, as well as other unstructured peptides. Sammanfattning : By cleaving peptide bonds, proteases either activate or degrade proteins and maintain protein quality control in response to various developmental stimuli and environmental factors. 13. Host organelles and transporters in underground plant-pathogen interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers studies of three different soilborne plant pathogens, the two fungi, Rhizoctonia solani and Verticillium longisporum, and the protist Plasmodiophora brassicae, as well as their host responses. Based on genome sequence analysis of the pathogens and their plant hosts, different effectors and plant defence factors were predicted. LÄS MER
14. To “leaf” or not to “leaf” : Understanding the metabolic adjustments associated with leaf senescence
Sammanfattning : The adequate execution of the final developmental stage of a leaf, leaf senescence, is crucial to the long-term survival of the plant. During senescence cellular structures like membranes, proteins, lipids and macromolecules are degraded and released nutrients are relocated to developing parts of the plant, such as young leaves, stems, flowers, siliques and ultimately seeds that are dependent on this nutrient remobilization. 15. Functional studies of the PreP peptidasome in Arabidopsis thaliana
Sammanfattning : Two independent endosymbiotic events gave rise to mitochondria and chloroplasts. Despite the fact that both organelles have their own small genome the majority of organellar proteins are encoded in the nucleus, synthesized in the cytosol and imported into the organelles. LÄS MER
