  1. 41. Tectonic History and Present-Day Deformation in the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt

    Författare :Khaled Hessami; James Jackson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Zagros; Orogeny; Unconformities; Iran; Growth folds; Middel East; Tectonics; Models; GPS; basement; Seismicity; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis uses various approaches such as observation of satellite images, field investigations, analogue modeling and GPS measurements to constrain deformation of the basement and sedimentary cover of the Zagros fold-thrust belt in time and space.Focal mechanism solutions of most earthquakes indicate that deformation in the Zagros basement is due to shortening and thickening through numerous thrust faults. 2. 42. Mössbauer spectroscopy under high pressures and temperatures

    Författare :Elke Hålenius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Mössbauer; high pressure - high temperature; iron; olivine; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Iron plays a very important role in Earth materials. 57Fe- Mössbauer spectroscopy provides valuable information on the oxidation state and the near surrounding of iron atoms in crystal structures. LÄS MER

  3. 43. Late-orogenic, ductile shear zones and protolith ages in the Svecofennian domain, central Sweden

    Författare :Karin Högdahl; Carl Ehlers; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The timing of deformation along ductile shear zones in the Svecofennian Domain in central Sweden has generally been constrained by their relationship to magmatic and metamorphic events of known age. A better resolution for the timing of the deformation can be obtained by direct, radiometric dating of minerals which are constituents of the shear fabric. LÄS MER

  4. 44. Controlled Source Radiomagnetotelluric (CSRMT) Applications in Environmental and Resource Exploration

    Författare :Nazli Ismail; Laust Pedersen; Bulent Tezkan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetotelluric; radio magnetotelluric; controlled-source tensor magnetotelluric; plane wave; near surface geophysics; sediment; fracture zone; inversion; forward modelling; near field effect; two-dimensional model; three-dimensional model; resolution; Geophysics; Geofysik; Earth Sciences with Specialization Environmental Analysis; geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; Hydrology; hydrologi; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : An integrated use of radio magnetotelluric (RMT) and controlled source tensor magnetotelluric (CSTMT) measurements, the so-called CSRMT method, has been employed in environmental and resource exploration studies. A number of case histories, including a groundwater investigation in glacial deposits, a study of fracture zones for geotechnical purposes and a mining exploration study of a copper deposit, are presented in this thesis in order to illustrate the usefulness and capability of the CSRMT method. 5. 45. Fossilized microorganisms in volcanic rocks from sub-seafloor environments

    Författare :Magnus Ivarsson; Nils Holm; Sten Lindblom; Curt Broman; Harald Furnes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microfossils; hydrothermal systems; deep biosphere; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Fossilized microorganisms are focused in this thesis. Such organisms have been observed in drilled basalt samples from the Emperor Seamounts in the Pacific Ocean collected during ODP (Ocean Drilling Program) Leg 197. LÄS MER
