  1. 26. The dynamic emplacement of felsic magma in the upper crust

    Författare :Tobias Mattsson; Steffi Burchardt; Karen Mair; Christoph Breitkreuz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laccolith; cryptodome; magma emplacement; magma flow; magma rheology; granite; rhyolite; pluton; AMS; XCT; thermobarometry; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Felsic magma intrudes earth’s upper crust through a variety of mechanisms. Magma intrusion growth and shape have mainly been explained in terms of host rock properties and intrusion depth, while considering the magma as an overpressurised fluid. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Evolution of a silicic magma reservoir in the upper crust : Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland

    Författare :Emma Rhodes; Steffi Burchardt; Abigail Barker; Charles F. Parker; Alexander Cruden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma; magma emplacement; magma reservoir; floor subsidence; piecemeal subsidence; granite; pluton; cap-rock; magma mingling; magma plumbing systems; volcanic and igneous plumbing systems; eruption; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Field observations of extinct and exposed magma reservoirs shed light on processes operating in the roots of presently active volcanoes. The Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland is an example of a fossil shallow magma reservoir that fed eruptions. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Revealing invisible strain : Magnetic Fabric Analysis as Strain Indicator in Analogue Models and Nature

    Författare :Thorben Schöfisch; 0000-0002-1872-052x Hemin; Bjarne Almqvist; Stefan Luth; Ian Alsop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analogue Modelling; Magnetic Fabric Analysis; AMS; Strain distribution; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Strain is accommodated by folding, thrusting and an “invisible” component, known as penetrative strain. Magnetic fabric analysis allows for identification and quantification of this imperceivable strain. In this thesis, magnetic fabric analysis is applied to quantify strain in analogue sandbox models. 4. 29. Viscous-brittle deformation of shallowly emplaced silicic magma : Implications for outgassing and volcanic hazards

    Författare :Taylor Witcher; Steffi Burchardt; Edward Llewellin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma deformation; magmatic outgassing; magmatic intrusions; rhyolite; Sandfell laccolith; crystal mush; volcanic hazards; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Silicic magma in the shallow crust has the potential to violently erupt, depending on its ability to release overpressures caused by magmatic volatiles (outgassing). Deformation-induced outgassing is prevalent along volcanic conduit margins, where ascending magma is sheared at high rates. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Trans-crustal magma storage in contrasting tectonic settings

    Författare :Harri Geiger; Frances Deegan; Valentin R. Troll; Katharine Cashman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing systems; thermobarometry; oxygen isotope analysis; shallow arc storage systems;

    Sammanfattning : Magmatic plumbing systems comprise magma chambers, sheet intrusions, and conduits which link the Earth’s deep interior with the Earth’s surface. As such, they are the structural framework of magma transport and storage that is governed by complex physical and chemical processes in magma reservoirs and through the interaction of magma bodies with surrounding crustal rocks over timescales from hours to millions of years.
