  1. 26. Comparison of Different Electrical Machines for Belt-driven Alternator and Starter

    Författare :Dan Hagstedt; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Belt-driven Alternator and Starter; Permanently Magnetised Synchronous Machine; Electrically Magnetised Synchronous Machine; Series Magnetisation Synchronous Machine; Hybrid Magnetised Synchronous Machine;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the electromagnetic design of a synchronous machine suited for a belt-driven alternator and starter (BAS) in a micro hybridisation of a mid-size passenger car. The BAS needs to provide a high cranking torque to start the combustion engine, especially in a cool condition where the requirements are highest. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Asynchronous First-Order Algorithms for Large-Scale Optimization : Analysis and Implementation

    Författare :Arda Aytekin; Mikael Johansson; Lin Xiao; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; convex; optimization; asynchronous; algorithms; parallel; distributed; large-scale; big data; software; serverless; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Developments in communication and data storage technologies have made large-scale data collection more accessible than ever. The transformation of this data into insight or decisions typically involves solving numerical optimization problems. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Scalable Optimization Methods for Machine Learning : Acceleration, Adaptivity and Structured Non-Convexity

    Författare :Vien Van Mai; Mikael Johansson; John Duchi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Large-scale optimization; Anderson acceleration; first-order methods; stochastic optimization; momentum; gradient clipping; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at developing efficient optimization algorithms for solving large-scale machine learning problems. To cope with the increasing scale and complexity of such models, we focus on first-order and stochastic methods in which updates are carried out using only (noisy) information about function values and (sub)gradients. 4. 29. Mitigating Knock in Heavy Duty Spark Ignition Engines : Experiments and simulations of diluted ethanol and methanol combustion

    Författare :Senthil Krishnan Mahendar; Anders Christiansen Erlandsson; Christer Spiegelberg; James Szybist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ethanol; Methanol; Dilution; Spark Ignition; Miller Timing; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Sammanfattning : To effectively reduce fossil fuel dependence in the transport sector, an unprecedented increase in renewable fuel production is required. Short chain alcohols, such as ethanol and methanol, are well placed as they can be produced in a variety of renewable pathways from most carbon sources. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish natural philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772) thought in his early scientific career that the world was like a gigantic machine, following the laws of mechanics and geometry. The work presented here is a study of his mechanistic worldview and metaphorical way of thinking up to the year 1734, examining most of his fields of interest, from geometry and metaphysics to technology and mining engineering.
