  1. 6. Human Behaviour in Social-Ecological Systems : Insights from economic experiments and agent-based modelling

    Författare :Caroline Schill; Therese Lindahl; Anne-Sophie Crépin; Johan Colding; Carl Folke; Juan Camilo Cárdenas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Human behaviour; Common-pool resources; Ecological complexity; Collective action; Sustainable resource use; Regime shifts; Thresholds; Uncertainty; Communication; Knowledge-sharing; Economic experiments; Laboratory and field experiments; Agent-based modelling; Complex adaptive systems; Social-ecological systems; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Progress towards sustainability requires changes in our individual and collective behaviour. Yet, our fundamental understanding of behaviour in relation to environmental change remains severely limited. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Fatigue of Heavy-Vehicle Engine Materials : Damage Mechanisms, Laboratory Experiments and Life Estimation

    Författare :Viktor Norman; Johan Moverare; Peter Skoglund; Daniel Leidermark; Tilmann Beck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Due to increasing demands on sustainability exerted by end-costumers and policy makers, heavyvehicle manufacturers are urged to increase the engine efficiency in order to reduce the exhaust gas emission. However, increasing the efficiency is also associated with an elevated fatigue rate of the materials constituting the engine parts, which consequently reduces the engine service life. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Learning Chemistry at the University level : Student attitudes, motivation, and design of the learning environment

    Författare :C. Anders R. Berg; Johan Lithner; Lisbeth Lundahl; Helge Strömdahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :laboratory work; open experiments; attitude; university level; motivation; cognitive load; laboratory instruction styles; attitude change; design of learning situation; student questions.;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of the research this thesis is based upon was to study students’ attitudes towards learning chemistry at university level and their motivation from three perspectives. How can students’ attitudes towards learning chemistry be assessed? How can these attitudes be changed? How are learning situations experienced by students with different attitude positions? An attitude questionnaire, assessing views of knowledge, learning assessments, laboratory activities, and perceived roles of instructors and student, was used to estimate students’ attitude positions. 4. 9. Factors influencing emission fluxes and bacterial enrichment in sea spray aerosols : Insights from laboratory and field studies

    Författare :Julika Zinke; Matthew E. Salter; Paul Zieger; Rachel A. Foster; E. Douglas Nilsson; Patricia K. Quinn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sea spray aerosols; eddy covariance fluxes; air-sea-exchange; bacteria; primary biological airborne particles; laboratory studies; field studies; Baltic Sea; North-Eastern Atlantic; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is one of the major natural aerosol sources and is produced when wave breaking entrains air into ocean surface water, which subsequently breaks up into bubbles. These bubbles rise to the surface and can scavenge biogenic material. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The Impact of Fracture Geometry on the Hydromechanical Behaviour of Crystalline Rock

    Författare :Johan Thörn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laboratory experiments; Fracture aperture; In situ experiments; Conceptual model; Äspö HRL; Fracture geometry; Stereo photogrammetry; Hydromechanical coupling; Fracture normal stiffness;

    Sammanfattning : Effective construction of tunnels in fractured crystalline rock requires a unified approach for handling rock mechanics and hydrogeological issues. Traditionally, rock mechanics and hydrogeology not only use different nomenclature, they also measure parameters such as e.g. aperture differently. LÄS MER
