11. Radiation-Induced Damage Processes in Nuclear Reactor Environments
Sammanfattning : It is essential that the materials used in nuclear reactor applications maintain their structural integrity. However, consequences of the strong radiation field in the reactor core include radiolysis of the water surrounding the materials, as well as direct defect generation in the material itself. LÄS MER
12. Effects of warming on the green alga Cladophora glomerata : Ecological and genetic responses
Sammanfattning : Since the beginning of the 20th century, average global surface temperature has increased ~0.7 °C and the current scenarios predict that it will continue to rise additional 2-4 °C during the 21st century. LÄS MER
13. Modelling phase separation in Fe-Cr alloys : A continuum approach
Sammanfattning : The formation of Cr-rich and Fe-rich domains upon ageing of an initially homogeneous Fe-Cr alloy at elevated temperatures (300-600 ºC) is commonly referred to as phase separation. The behaviour originates from a miscibility gap in the Fe-Cr phase diagram. LÄS MER
14. Activity concentrations of radionuclides in energy production from peat, wood chips and straw
Sammanfattning : In this thesis quantitative analyses of radionuclide concentrations in bioenergy fuels such as peat, wood chips and straw are presented. For comparison a brief description is included of radionuclide concentrations and radiation doses from other sources of power and also from some industrial applications. LÄS MER
15. Phase separation in duplex stainless steel: characterization and mitigation
Sammanfattning : Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is a category of widely used stainlesssteel, which are strategically important in a variety of applications such asin the food industry, chemical engineering plants and nuclear power plants, due to their attractive combination of mechanical properties and corrosionresistance. However, these steel grades are sensitive to the so-called ‘475°Cembrittlement’, because of a phase separation (PS) phenomenon in theferrite phase, which decomposes into Fe-rich ferrite (α) and Cr-rich ferrite(α'), when exposed to temperatures within the miscibility gap.
