16. The Language of Textiles : Description and Judgement on Textile Pattern Composition
Sammanfattning : The present study concerns ways to describe, judge and discuss aesthetic qualities of designed textile patterns. Specific aims were to study how colours and compositions used in Old Amish Quilts can be systematically described, to study how simple and complex patterns in printed textile fabrics are perceived and expressed verbally and to study judgements, concepts and values in relation to designed textile patterns as expressed by schoolchildren, consumers, teachers of textile handicraft and designers. Sammanfattning : Annoyance response to vehicle noise is commonly reported. The impact reduction measures must therefore be measured scientifically. 18. A Combined Perceptual and Acoustical Account of US Dialect Distance
Sammanfattning : This study examines the influence of attitudinal, perceptual, and acoustic factors on the categorization of US dialects by comparing acoustic-vocalic and perceived accent distances. The results of native and non-native listeners’ perceived distances between US regional accents are investigated in light of how acoustic-phonetic markers, attitudinal judgments, and identifiability may together impact how similar or different accents are perceived to be. 19. Parents' perceptions of children's accident risk
Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present thesis was, first, to study how parents and other adults percieve or judge children’s accident risk, and, secondly, to relate such judgements to the subjects’ preferences for and satisfaction with different residential conditions.A theoretical framework is proposed which assumes that judgements of children’s accident risk are based on beliefs about what causes accidents to children. 20. Dissemination of scientific knowledge regarding climate change
Sammanfattning : Knowledge of climate change is provided by scientists. The issue is characterized by great complexity, as well as by scientific uncertainty.
