1. A Changing Arctic Climate : Science and Policy in the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment
Sammanfattning : Climate change has often been framed as a global issue but slow progress in the global climate negotiations and an increasing need to plan for local adaptation have made it increasingly salient to also discuss the potential of other arenas for climate policy and knowledge production. This dissertation analyzes the interplay between science and policy at the international regional level based on a study of an assessment of the impacts of climate change in the Arctic. LÄS MER
2. Climate, Conflict and Coping Capacity : The Impact of Climate Variability on Organized Violence
Sammanfattning : Understanding the conflict potential of climate variability is critical for assessing and dealing with the societal implications of climate change. Yet, it remains poorly understood under what circumstances – and how – extreme weather events and variation in precipitation patterns affect organized violence. LÄS MER
3. Dissemination of scientific knowledge regarding climate change
Sammanfattning : Knowledge of climate change is provided by scientists. The issue is characterized by great complexity, as well as by scientific uncertainty. Since the knowledge is disseminated to society by others than the scientists, to be confident in one´s own knowledge in these circumstances is even more difficult. LÄS MER
4. Climate Change: Models, Metrics and Meaning Making
Sammanfattning : This thesis, combining research in climate science and educational science, investigates different aspects of climate knowledge. It consists of five papers and covers three major topics: emission metrics, public understanding of atmospheric CO2 accumulation, and spatial modelling of natural resource use. LÄS MER
5. Climate change adaptation processes : Regional and sectoral stakeholder perspectives
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses how societal adaptation processes in public and private sectors at the regional to local level in Sweden are enacted. The thesis pays particular attention to critical factors that constrain or enable adaptation by focussing on: who are the stakeholders, how do different stakeholders perceive their capacity to adapt, and the role of stakeholder interaction in facilitating adaptation processes A combination of two analytical perspectives is used where one is based on key concepts within adaptation literature, and the other draws on boundary crossing and transdisciplinary knowledge production (stakeholders, adaptive capacity, and science-based stakeholder dialogues).
