11. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 12. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells
Sammanfattning : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. LÄS MER
13. Hox transcription factors in hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : Hematopoiesis is a lifelong, dynamic process in which a small number of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) residing in the bone marrow (BM) give rise to billions of mature blood cells of both myeloid and lymphoid origin each day. This enormous capacity of HSC has been utilized in BM transplantations for 4 decades and is also very important for future gene therapy. LÄS MER
14. Molecular specification of expanded forebrain neural stem and progenitor cells
Sammanfattning : The molecular specification of neural precursor cells has been suggested to be a progressive process, with a transition from an early requirement for extrinsic signals to intrinsic mechanisms. Thus, the cells in the nervous system acquire distinct fates in response to extrinsic signals, which activate repertoires of transcription factors in a region and cell type specific manner. LÄS MER
15. Deciphering microglia plasticity in glioma
Sammanfattning : Microglia are the innate immune cells of the brain. One of the main characteristics of microglia is its extremely plasticity, which is necessary for them to deal with changing circumstances. Activation of microglia can contribute to contrasting effects by either proinflammatory, anti-inflammatory, or tumor-supportive phenotypes. LÄS MER
