1. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells
Sammanfattning : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. LÄS MER
2. Regulatory Proteins in Progenitors and Differentiated Cells of the Human Prostate
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer (PC) develops from an androgen-dependent tissue that contains androgen receptors in both the stromal and glandular compartments. Surgical removal of the prostate may cure the patient, but if metastatic spread has occurred, androgen suppression therapy is the standard treatment. LÄS MER
3. Generation of Therapeutic T Cells for Prostate Cancer
Sammanfattning : The work presented herein focuses on the activation of the adaptive immune system in order to develop T cell-based immunotherapy for viral infections and cancer. The main goal was to identify and activate viral or tumoral antigen-specific T cells by using different identification, isolation and stimulation techniques. LÄS MER
4. Preclinical imaging of prostate cancer using radiolabeled antibodies
Sammanfattning : Target-specific molecular imaging with radiolabeled antibodies has experienced a rapid growth over the past 20 years, and is now an essential tool to provide information on disease presence and extent. Despite all efforts to detect and control prostate cancer at an early stage, a number of men are still progressing to develop incurable metastatic disease. LÄS MER
5. Studies of in vivo prostate amyloidosis and autoimmune responses towards amyloid structures in neurodegeneration
Sammanfattning : By using multidisciplinary analysis of CA inclusions in prostate glands of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, we have revealed that their major components are the amyloid forms of S100A8 and S100A9 proteins associated with numerous inflammatory conditions and types of cancer. We have demonstrated that material closely resembling CA can be produced from S100A8/A9 in vitro and shows the characters of amyloids. LÄS MER
