6. Understanding corrosion protection mechanisms of nanocomposite polymer coatings on carbon steel : A combination of in-situ AFM and electrochemical studies
Sammanfattning : Corrosion protection of carbon steel is crucial in today’s world and there is an urgent need to replace the hazardous compounds used with environmentally friendly anticorrosion coatings. In this European collaborative research project, new types of functional composite anticorrosion coatings for steel were developed with properties beyond the state-of-the-art using nanotechnology. 7. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids
Sammanfattning : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. 8. Ordered arrays of low-dimensional Au and Pd : synthesis and in situ observations
Sammanfattning : Electrodeposition of metals in templates of nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide (NP-AAO) is a versatile way of fabricating ordered arrays of metal nanowires. Thanks to the self-arranged long-range hexagonal order of the pores, electrodeposition in NP-AAO is an easily scalable bottom-up synthesis route and an attractive alternative to traditional top-down fabrication methods such as electron beam lithography. 9. The chemical nature of CO2 adsorption in zeolite A
Sammanfattning : The climate changes are accelerated by increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere connected to the fossil-fuel-based energy system. Substantial reforms of the system are needed immediately and could include the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. LÄS MER
10. Using Light to Probe Surface Electrochemical Processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows how various light-based in situ techniques can be used to follow different surface electrochemical processes such as electrochemical deposition into Nanoporous Anodic Aluminium Oxide (NP-AAO) templates and the surface structure of electrodes. Techniques based on both x-rays and visible light were used to follow surface structures and compositions, in situ. LÄS MER
