6. Structural and interaction studies of polysaccharides by NMR spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, polysaccharides of different origins have been investigated by NMR spectroscopy with regard to structures and interactions. In paper I, hydrogen bonding interactions in kappa- (κ) and kappa/mu- (κ/μ) hybrid carrageenan oligosaccharides were studied by NMR spectroscopy of hydroxy protons. LÄS MER
7. Design of kinetic models for assessment of critical aspects in bioprocess development : A case study of biohydrogen
Sammanfattning : The world faces major climate challenges and extensive efforts need to be taken to combat this issue. Replacing fossil-derived fuels and chemicals with renewables are one important step on the way. Hydrogen has a great potential as a renewable energy carrier for the transport sector and as a green chemical for the industry. LÄS MER
8. Studies of second coordination sphere effects and metal variations on [FeFe]-hydrogenase mimics
Sammanfattning : Mitigation of climate change motivates researchers to explore hydrogen as a potential energy carrier. Unfortunately, widespread use of hydrogen as an energy carrier is limited by numerous challenges in its production, including high energy consumption; high economic cost; current reliance on rare metals such as platinum. 9. Spectroscopic investigation of palladium catalysts during wet methane oxidation
Sammanfattning : Abatement of the strong greenhouse gas methane in vehicle applications by use of catalytic end-of-pipe technologies is challenging due to the prevailing reaction conditions with low temperatures and high water content. In this thesis, the mechanisms behind low-temperature water inhibition of lean methane oxidation over palladium-based catalysts have been studied using an integrated experimental approach including wet-chemical preparation of model catalysts with systematic variation of key performance parameters, transient measurements of reaction kinetics in chemical flow reactor, and operando infrared and X-ray absorption spectroscopic characterisation. 10. Active oxygen involvement in developmental processes in Populus : with emphasis on HipI-superoxide dismutase
Sammanfattning : In plants, oxidative stress is result of disruption of the cellular redox metabolism and is caused by a variety of stress conditions (abiotic and/or biotic). This leads to the induction of several mechanisms that protect against disruption of the redox balance, as well as mechanisms to assist in recovery from toxicity/damage caused by increased cellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
