16. Zeolite macrostructures
Sammanfattning : The preparation of zeolite macrostructures in the form of bilayered hollow tubes and microspheres is presented. The bilayered hollow ZSM-5/silicalite-1 tubes were prepared using carbon fibers as a substrate. The surface of the fibers was modified and colloidal silicalite-1 seed crystals adsorbed. LÄS MER
17. New approaches to concentration, desalting and separation of biopolymers in capillary electrophoresis
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the thesis five new on-tube methods for concentration and desalting ofampholytes, such as peptides and proteins, are described in Papers I and II. The methods arebased on the fact that electrophoretic migration velocities decrease upon a decrease in theabsolute value of the zeta potential of a solute and the pore size of the electrophoresis mediumand upon an increase in the cross section of the electrophoresis chamber, the viscosity and theelectrical conductivity of the electrophoresis medium. 18. Preclinical tumor-immune modeling : For the identification of immunomodulatory drugs
Sammanfattning : For a long time, the field of cancer research was dominated by a tumor cell-centric view. That, however, changed once it became recognized that medical cancer treatment is largely influenced by the combined effect exerted on both cancer and immune cells. LÄS MER
19. Hybrid Plasmonic Devices for Optical Communication and Sensing
Sammanfattning : Hybrid plasmonic (HP) waveguides, a multi-layer waveguide structure supporting a hybrid mode of surface plasmonics and Si photonics, is a compromise way to integrate plasmonic materials into Si or SOI platforms, which can guide optical waves of sub-wavelength size, and with relative low propagation loss. In this thesis, several HP waveguides and devices are developed for the purposes of optical communications and sensing. LÄS MER
20. Distribution and Chemical Diversity of Cyclotides from Violaceae : Impact of Structure on Cytotoxic Activity and Membrane Interactions
Sammanfattning : During the last decade there has been increased interest in the cyclotide protein family, which consist of a circular chain of approximately 30 amino acids, including six cysteines that form three disulfide bonds, arranged in a cyclic cystine knot motif. This thesis gives new insights in cyclotide distribution and occurrence in the plant family Violaceae, structure-activity relationships for cytotoxic effects, membrane disruption and adsorption on lipid membranes, and evaluates toxicity and anti-tumor activity in vivo.
