31. Cross-Processing Fish Co-Products with Plant Food Side Streams or Seaweeds Using the pH-Shift Method - a new sustainable route to functional food protein ingredients stable towards lipid oxidation
Sammanfattning : The seafood value chain is highly inefficient as 50-60% of the fish weight end up as co-products in the filleting operation. Despite their abundance in high-quality proteins, fish co-products mainly go to low value products such as fodder. The pH-shift process, i.e. LÄS MER
32. Non-indigenous zooplankton : the role of predatory cladocerans and of copepods in trophic dynamics
Sammanfattning : Human-mediated introductions of non-indigenous species now threaten to homogenize the biota of the Globe, causing huge economic and ecological damage. This thesis studies the ecological role of 3 invasive planktonic crustaceans, the omnivorous copepod Acartia tonsa (western Atlantic and Indo-Pacific) and the predatory cladocerans, Cercopagis pengoi (Ponto-Caspian) and Bythotrephes longimanus (Eurasian). 33. Genetic structure of natural populations : aspects of the association between genetical and morphological variability patterns
Sammanfattning : Most species comprise a number of more or less reproductively isolated subpopulations. These subpopulations may exhibit striking differences in morphology and ecology, and on the basis of those differences they are often given the rank of subspecies, race, stock, variety, etc. LÄS MER
34. Persistent organic pollutants and bone tissue : studies in wild and experimental animals
Sammanfattning : Since the mid 1900s, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of osteoporotic-related fractures in the industrialised world. The reason for this is unknown, but there could be a link between the increased use and production of chemicals and effects on bone. LÄS MER
35. QSBMR Quantitative Structure Biomagnification Relationships : Studies Regarding Persistent Environmental Pollutants in the Baltic Sea Biota
Sammanfattning : I have studied persistent environmental pollutants in herring (Clupea harengus), in adult guillemot (Uria aalge) and in guillemot eggs from the Baltic Sea. The studied contaminants were organochlorines (OCs); dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), and brominated flame retardants (BFRs); polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD).
