26. The ecology of the plankton fauna in the Gulf of Bothnia
Sammanfattning : The geographical distribution of the Gulf of Bothnia zooplankton species is presented together with observations of abundancies and vertical distributions. The historical development of this plankton community in the last 70 years is discussed.Spring and summer development of the plankton fauna was studiedin the Bothnian Bay. LÄS MER
27. Baltic cod predation: mechanisms, impact on prey, implications for fisheries
Sammanfattning : Trophic interactions are fundamental in the functioning of ecosystems. Predator-prey interactions between cod (Gadus morhua), herring (Clupea harengus) and sprat (Sprattus sprattus) in the Baltic Sea are typical examples of strong trophic interactions with consequences on the structure of this ecosystem. 28. Seals and fisheries: a study of the conflict and some possible solutions
Sammanfattning : Interaction between seals and fisheries along the Swedish coast has serious environmental and economic consequences. This thesis describes the conflict as it affects four different small-scale coastal fisheries; the eel fisheries on the west coast, the herring fisheries and salmon fisheries in the northern Baltic and the cod fisheries in the central Baltic. 29. Organohalogen environmental pollutants in Baltic fish : chemical characterization and toxicological evaluation with a focus on bone disturbances
Sammanfattning : The present study was initiated due to concern about toxicological consequences associated with the exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) via the consumption of Baltic fish. In Sweden, fish from the Baltic Sea is a major dietary source of POPs but also an important source of essential nutrients. LÄS MER
30. Zooplankton growth and trophic linkages : Implications for fish feeding conditions in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : The aim of this Thesis was to improve our understanding and assessment of feeding conditions for zooplanktivorous fish in the Baltic Sea.We investigated (papers I, II) the usefulness of biochemical proxies for assessments of growth and metabolic rates in the dominant Baltic copepod Acartia bifilosa.
