1. On droplet interactions and suspension flow
Sammanfattning : Micron to millimetre sized droplets, precisely generated or sustained in controlled environment, have great potential in myriads of engineering applications functioning as the basic element to assemble metamaterials, deliver drugs, host surfactant, reduce friction and damp turbulence. The interaction of droplets from pairwise to collective levels is the most important factor in controlling these processes, yet little is known about the detailed mechanisms in various nonideal conditions. 2. Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Premixed and Partially Premixed Combustion
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach is used to study turbulent premixed and partially premixed combustion. The CFD approach is based on large eddy simulation (LES) in which the large-scale structures of the flow are resolved on a grid, leaving only the small-scale structures (subgrid scales) to be modeled. 3. Numerical Investigations of Turbulent Flow in Water Turbines
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates turbulent flow in water turbines, focusing onthe flow in the vicinity of reaction water turbine runners such as theKaplan runner and the Francis runner. The method of investigationis principally numerical although some experimental observations andmeasurements made in the present work and elsewhere are included. LÄS MER
4. Accuracy and Convergence Studies of the Numerical Solution of Compressible Flow Problems
Sammanfattning : The numerical solution of compressible flow problems governed by the Navier-Stokes equations is considered. A finite volume method is used for the discretization in space. Different techniques to accelerate the convergence to a steady state are suggested, and the accuracy of the spatial difference operator is analyzed. LÄS MER
5. Regulation of inflammation and angiogenesis in the cornea
Sammanfattning : Inflammation and angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, are involved in tumor growth, ocular diseases and wound healing. In ocular angiogenesis, new pathological vessels grow into a specific eye tissue, leak fluid, and disrupt vision. LÄS MER
