  1. 16. Clinical consequences after heart transplantation with reference to osteoporosis, renal function, and immunosuppression. Experiences from Skåne University Hospital in Lund 1988-2019

    Författare :Eveline Löfdahl; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart Transplantation; Osteoporosis; chronic kidney disase; immunosuppressive agents;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Heart transplantation (HT) remains the ultimate final therapy for patients with end-stage heart failure. To prevent rejection of the allograft, life-long immunosuppressive therapy is required. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Cardiovascular and metabolic effects of endothelins in man : an experimental and clinical study

    Författare :Astrid Ottosson-Seeberger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :endothelin-1; big ET-1; C-terminal big ET-1 22-3 8 fragment; hemodynamic; blood flow; fractional extraction; conversion; plasma half-life; end-stage renal failure; ischemic heart disease; hemodialysis; high-flux membrane; glucose uptake; insulin sensitivity;

    Sammanfattning : Increased plasma concentrations of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and of its propeptide big endothelin-1 have been reported in diseases associated with endothelial dysfunction, cardiovascular remodelling and insulin resistance. In this thesis, we studied the hemodynamic effects of big ET-1 in healthy humans focusing on the mechanisms of the effects (study I-IV). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Molecular mechanisms of the kidney in health and disease

    Författare :Kerstin Ebefors; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :kidney; gene expression; glomerulus; proteoglycans;

    Sammanfattning : In 2010, 307 Swedish patients received a new kidney through transplantation, and the first of April 2011, 603 patients were on the kidney transplant waiting list. In Sweden over 8000 patients are presently in active uremic care with about half in dialysis and the other half with a functional kidney graft. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Acute kidney injury, outcome studies

    Författare :Max Bell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a complex syndrome for which no effective treatment exists, and our understanding of this condition is limited. If the acute kidney injury is severe enough to require renal replacement therapy, mortality rates at six months are around 60%. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Pathomechanism of diabetic nephropathy

    Författare :Anna Körner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :diabetic nephropathy; hyperflltration; Na ; K - ATPase; Dahl rats; salt sensitive hypertension; glomerulosclerosis; polyol pathway activation; oxidative stress;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetic nephropathy is today the most common cause of end stage renal failure. The risk for developing overt diabetic nephropathy is considerably reduced by antihypertensive treatment, and adequate control of blood glucose. However, there is a need for additional and even more efficient tools to prevent this complication of diabetes. LÄS MER
