1. Molecular Insight into Ion-Specific Interactions : Vibrational Sum Frequency Study of the Carboxylic Acid Moiety
Sammanfattning : Ion specific effects at charged interfaces find numerous applications in colloidal sciences and play a vital role in many biological processes. Despite having been studied for over a century, starting with the work of F. Hofmeister in the 1880s, a comprehensive molecular understanding remains elusive. LÄS MER
2. Plant Phosphoinositide Kinases. A Study of PtdIns 4-kinases and a PtdIns 4-phosphate 5-kinase
Sammanfattning : Phosphoinositides are of particular interest in signal transduction processes as they can be sequentially phosphorylated and used as precursors for the intracellular messengers inositol trisphosphate (InsP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) that in turn affects calcium levels and protein kinase cascades, eventually leading to a physiological response. The activity and regulation of PtdIns 4-kinases and PtdInsP kinase was studied. LÄS MER
3. Metal ion cooperativity in Escherichia coli RNase P RNA
Sammanfattning : RNase P is an essential ribonuclease responsible for removal of the 5’ leader of tRNA precursors. Bacterial RNase P consists of an RNA subunit and a small basic protein. The catalytic activity is associated with the RNA subunit, i.e. LÄS MER
4. Enantiomeric Separations using Chiral Counter-Ions
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the use of chiral counter-ions for the enantiomeric separation of amines in non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis. The investigations have been concentrated on studies of the influence, of the chiral counter-ion, the solvent, the electrolyte and the analyte, on the enantioselective separation. LÄS MER
5. Fundamental Characterization and Technical Aspects of a Chelating Surfactant
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to investigate the fundamental characteristics of a chelating surfactant in terms of solution behaviour, chelation of divalent metal ions, and interaction in mixtures with different foaming agents and divalent metal ion, as well as examining its prospects in some practical applications. Chelating surfactants are functional molecules, with both surface active and chelating properties, which are water soluble and therefore suitable for chelation in many aqueous environments. LÄS MER
