16. An Exploration of Models for Software Faults and Errors: a Journey through Field Data and Injection Experiments
Sammanfattning : Society is becoming quite dependent on computer-based systems. Today, computers are embedded in wristwatches, vending machines, factory equipment, automobiles and aircraft. A failure in a computer-based system that controls critical applications may lead to significant economic losses or even the loss of human lives. LÄS MER
17. Global Navigation Satellite Systems: Applications With Time Scales From Seconds to Decades
Sammanfattning : Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) can be used formany applications with time scales varying from seconds to decades. For~example, due to the ability of high-rate sampling, GNSStechniques are suitable for the detection of the large co-seismicdisplacements, which are dominated by low-frequency signals andtherefore can be recorded at a few Hertz and estimated with rathersmall uncertainty (millimetres). 18. Weighted Regression with Application to Array Antennas
Sammanfattning : A nonlinear system can be modelled with a simple linear model ifthe model is only valid locally. This can be done by assigningweights to the estimation data, as a function of the distance tothe modelled point. The weighting is here used to develop adirection-dependent calibration method for array antennas. LÄS MER
19. Activity-regulated retinoic acid signaling in olfactory sensory neurons
Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies included in the thesis is to better understand the interplay between neuronal activity-dependent gene regulation and the bioactive vitamin A metabolite all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) during postnatal development, refinement and maintenance of precise neuronal connectivity using the olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) in the olfactory epithelium (OE) of genetically modified mice as a model. We show that:Inhibition of RA receptor (RAR)-mediated transcription in OSNs reduces expression of the olfactory cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) ion channel, which is required for odorant receptor (OR)-mediated stimulus transduction. 20. Investigation of surface and interface phenomena in silicon and silicon dioxide systems
Sammanfattning : The characterization of a thin silicon dioxide (SiO2) film close to the silicon dioxide -silicon interface is very important in understanding and improving solid state electronic and optoelectronic devices. The refractive index, the dielectric constant, and the density of oxide film, are all related to the chemical composition and porosity (voids) of the films. LÄS MER
