  1. 1. Linking landscape variables, hydrology and weathering regime in Taiga and Tundra ecoregions of Northern Sweden

    Författare :Erik Smedberg; Christoph Humborg; Robert Striegl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Taiga and tundra; high-latitude; carbon fluxes; weathering; hydrological alterations; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : High-latitude watersheds have been regarded as a carbon sink with soil carbon accumulating at low temperature. This sink is now believed to turn into a source, acting as positive feedback to climate warming. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Holocene climate and environmental change in high latitudes as recorded by stable isotopes in peat deposits

    Författare :Päivi Kaislahti Tillman; Steffen Holzkämper; Stefan Wastegård; Peter Kuhry; Thomas W. D. Edwards; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stable isotopes; Holocene; subarctic; climate; Sphagnum fuscum; kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in α-cellulose isolated from Sphagnum fuscum moss remains were used as climate proxies. The main focus was to implement the methods in records from high latitude peatlands in the Northern Hemisphere (west-central Canada and north-eastern European Russia), reconstruct palaeoclimate of the studied regions during the Holocene, and evaluate the compatibility of results with other proxy records, especially tree-ring isotope time-series. 3. 3. High-resolution mapping and spatial variability of soil organic carbon storage in permafrost environments

    Författare :Matthias Benjamin Siewert; Gustaf Hugelius; Peter Kuhry; Iain Hartley; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon; soil organic carbon; permafrost; soil; land cover classification; digital soil mapping; machine-learning; ecosystem; mapping; landscape studies; Siberia; Arctic; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Large amounts of carbon are stored in soils of the northern circumpolar permafrost region. High-resolution mapping of this soil organic carbon (SOC) is important to better understand and predict local to global scale carbon dynamics. LÄS MER

  4. 4. High-resolution mapping of soil organic carbon storage and soil properties in Siberian periglacial terrain

    Författare :Matthias Siewert; Gustaf Hugelius; Mats Olsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil organic carbon; Siberia; remote sensing; ecosystems; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : In the past years considerable attention has been given to soil organic carbon (SOC) stored in permafrost-affected soils in periglacial terrain. Studies have shown that these soils store around half the global SOC pool, making them a key component of the global carbon cycle. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Soil organic carbon in permafrost terrain : Total storage, landscape distribution and environmental controls

    Författare :Gustaf Hugelius; Peter Kuhry; Jan Boelhouwers; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : High latitude terrestrial ecosystems are considered key components in the global carbon (C) cycle and hold large reservoirs of soil organic carbon (SOC). To a large degree, this SOC is stored in permafrost soils and peatlands and is vulnerable to remobilization under future global warming and permafrost thawing. LÄS MER
