11. Angiogenesis in childhood malignancies
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is necessary for the growth and spread of solid tumors. In these studies angiogenesis was measured in childhood malignancies in general and in Wilms’ tumor in particular, and cutting needle biopsy (CNB) specimens were evaluated for diagnosis in childhood renal tumors. 12. Fabrication of new silica nano structures and development of new concepts for MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : A technique to alter the morphology of the inner surface of fused silica capillaries has been developed. The internal surface area is enlarged by means of nano-wires of silica, which are grown from the capillary walls. LÄS MER
13. In vivo imaging of leukocyte-endothelium interactions in septic lung injury
Sammanfattning : Excessive accumulation of leukocytes in the lung represents a key feature in the development of an acute lung injury (ALI). Numerous studies demonstrated that leukocyte rolling is a compulsory precondition for the firm adhesion in organs. However, it seems that the recruitment process of leukocytes in the lung is more complex. LÄS MER
14. Guiding of highly charged ions through insulating nanocapillaries
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains experimental work on guiding of highly charged ions through insulating nanocapillaries. We have studied the time evolution of angular distributions of transmitted ions under well defined initial conditions: already charged, as well as fully discharged nanocapillaries, by using a two-dimensional position sensitive Micro Channel Plate detector with a data acquisition system working in event mode. 15. Extracellular Matrix and Actin Cytoskeleton - the Control Unit of Interstitial Fluid Volume
Sammanfattning : The regulation of fluid (water) volume in the body is crucial for tissue homeostasis. The interstitial fluid, which comprises almost 20% of the body fluid, is stored in the loose connective tissue and its volume is actively regulated by components of this tissue. LÄS MER
