11. It's All in the Brain : A Theory of the Qualities of Perception
Sammanfattning : This dissertation concerns the location and nature of phenomenal qualities. Arguably, these qualities naively seem to belong to perceived external objects. However, we also seem to experience phenomenal qualities in hallucinations, and in hallucinations we do not perceive any external objects. LÄS MER
12. Analysis of Human Brain MRI : Contributions to Regional Volume Studies
Sammanfattning : Many disorders are associated with regional brain volumes. The analysis of these volumes from MR images often requires sequential processing steps such as localization and delineation. LÄS MER
13. Intracranial Pressure in Traumatic Brain Injury
Sammanfattning : Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) continues to be a major problem worldwide. Today, intensive care of patients with TBI is mainely focused on preventing and treating secondary brain injuries. High pressure inside the intracranial cavity (ICP) has been found to be an important feature of disturbed cerebral dynamics and secondary injuries. LÄS MER
14. Signal transduction in the brain : modulation of receptor-mediated inositol phospholipid breakdown by potassium and fluoride ions
Sammanfattning : Neurotransmitter receptor types mediating the generation of intracellular signals are of two types; ligand-gated ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. The effector enzyme phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is modulated by stimulation of G protein coupled receptors, leading to an increased breakdown of inositol phospholipids ("Ptdlns breakdown"). 15. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence.
