  1. 1. Signal transduction in the brain : modulation of receptor-mediated inositol phospholipid breakdown by potassium and fluoride ions

    Författare :Gunnar Tiger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inositol phospholipid breakdown; muscarinic receptors; potassium; fluoride; rat brain; pig brain;

    Sammanfattning : Neurotransmitter receptor types mediating the generation of intracellular signals are of two types; ligand-gated ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. The effector enzyme phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is modulated by stimulation of G protein coupled receptors, leading to an increased breakdown of inositol phospholipids ("Ptdlns breakdown"). 2. 2. Fatty acid amide hydrolase - A target for anti-inflammatory therapies?

    Författare :Sandra Holt; Christopher J Fowler; Anders Bucht; Gunnar Tiger; Ruth A Ross; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; FAAH; anandamide; endocannabinoid; pH; inflammation; NSAID; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Anti-inflammatory drugs are a widely used class of therapeutic agents, but the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) is hampered by their gastrointestinal side-effects. Recent reports that cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors may cause cardiovascular events underline the importance of identifying new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of inflammation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pharmacology of Palmitoylethanolamide and Related Compounds

    Författare :Kent-Olov Jonsson; Christopher J Fowler; Gunnar Tiger; Andrew SC Rice; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; anandamide; cannabinoid; FAAH; palmitoylethanolamide; palmitoylisopropylamide; inflammation; mast cells; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Anandamide (AEA) is an endogenous fatty acid which activates the same cannabinoid receptors as ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance in marijuana. In vivo, anandamide exerts a number of actions including effects upon pain and inflammation. LÄS MER
