  1. 16. City Re-Making Approaches in Contemporary Urbanism : “Re-Urbanism” as a Strategy for the Revitalization of Detroit and Declining Cities

    Författare :Ryan Locke; Tigran Haas; Michael Mehaffy; David Brain; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Re-Urbanism; urban decline; urban revitalization; Placemaking; Detroit; urbanism; public space; Landscape Urbanism; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Many cities today are experiencing extreme widespread urban decline, at a time when urban growth and revitalization are prioritized on the agenda. This dissertation examines a number of prominent urban revitalization strategies for declining cities, specifically highlighting the emblematic case of Detroit as a research subject. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Ion escape from Mars : measurements in the present to understand the past

    Författare :Robin Ramstad; Stas Barabash; Yoshifumi Futaana; David Brain; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mars; escape; solar wind; evolution; CME; coupling; plasma; atmosphere; Space Physics; rymdfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Present-day Mars is a cold and dry planet with a thin CO2-dominated atmosphere comprising only a few mbar pressure at low altitudes. However, the Martian surface is marked with valley networks, hydrated mineral clays, carbonates and the remains of deltas and meandering rivers, i.e. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : oday about half of the world's population owns the microwave producing mobile phones. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) protects the mammalian brain from potentially harmful substances circulating in the blood. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Immune-to-Brain Signaling in Fever : The Brain Endothelium as Interface

    Författare :Elahe Mirrasekhian; David Engblom; Anders Blomqvist; Simin Mohseni; Tomas Deierborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Fever is a brain-regulated elevation of body temperature that occurs in response to infectious and non-infectious stimuli. During inflammatory episodes, circulating cytokines that are released by activated immune cells, trigger the induction of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 in the ventromedial preoptic area of the hypothalamus (the thermoregulation center). 5. 20. Imaging brain aromatase by using PET : A way to study anabolic steroid abuse

    Författare :Kayo Takahashi; Mats Bergström; Bengt Långström; Yasuyoshi Watanabe; Torbjörn Bäckström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aromatase; brain; molecular imaging; PET; [11C]Vorozole; amygdala; hypothalamus; anabolic-androgenic steroids; abuse; [18F]Vorozole analogs; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Aromatase is an enzyme that facilitates the conversion of androgens to estrogens and may play a role in mood and mental status. The main theme of this thesis is the imaging of brain aromatase by use of the PET technique. The PET tracer for aromatase, 11C-labeled vorozole (VOZ) was developed and evaluated by with in vitro and in vivo methods. LÄS MER
