  1. 11. How precise is cyclic life? : Insights during a single molecule revolution of the bacterial cell cycle

    Författare :Mats Walldén; Johan Elf; Peter Graumann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E.coli; cell cycle; replication initiation; transcription factor; gene-regulation; single molecule microscopy; microfluidics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial cells reproduce by doubling in size and dividing. The molecular control systems which regulate the cell cycle must do so in a manner which maintains a similar cell size over many generations. A cell can under conditions of fast growth conclude cell cycles in shorter time than the time required to replicate its chromosome. LÄS MER

  2. 12. High-throughput DNA Sequencingin Microbial Ecology : Methods and Applications

    Författare :Luisa Hugerth; Anders Andersson; Jeroen Raes; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbial ecology; Baltic Sea; Next-generation sequencing; Amplicon sequencing; Metagenomics; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Microorganisms play central roles in planet Earth’s geochemical cycles, in food production, and in health and disease of humans and livestock. In spite of this, most microbial life forms remain unknown and unnamed, their ecological importance and potential technological applications beyond the realm of speculation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Vitamin A regulated neuronal regeneration and homeostasis

    Författare :Sofia Håglin; Anna Berghard; Staffan Bohm; Leif Carlsson; Ola Hermanson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Activity dependent; Adult stem cells; Ageing; CYP26B1; Homeostasis; Metaplasia; Neurogenesis; Olfactory epithelium; Regeneration; Respiratory epithelium; Retinoic acid; Sensory map; Vitamin A;

    Sammanfattning : The olfactory epithelium is a dynamic tissue maintained by continuous neurogenesis throughout life. Upon injury, neurons and other olfactory cell types are regenerated through proliferation of horizontal stem cells. Some genes that regulate vitamin A metabolism are spatially expressed in the olfactory epithelium. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Phenotypic evolution and adaptive strategies in marine phytoplankton (Coccolithophores)

    Författare :Luka Šupraha; Jorijntje Henderiks; Bente Edvardsen; Jeremy Young; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coccolithophores; Life-Cycle; Phytoplankton; Nutrient limitation; Temperature; Microscopy; High-throughput sequencing; Taxonomy;

    Sammanfattning : Coccolithophores are biogeochemically important marine algae that interact with the carbon cycle through photosynthesis (CO2 sink), calcification (CO2 source) and burial of carbon into oceanic sediments. The group is considered susceptible to the ongoing climate perturbations, in particular to ocean acidification, temperature increase and nutrient limitation. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Processes and factors governing benthic community dynamics—environmental change in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Christian Sommer; Sara Sjöling; Patrik Dinnétz; Inger Porsch Hällström; Alexander Eiler; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Benthic communities; Baltic Sea; biodiversity; community composition; environmental change; environmental genomics; microbial ecology; Major Baltic Inflow; meta-population; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : As drivers of biogeochemical cycles and nutrient recycling, such as carbon turnover, the microbial community is essential in sustaining functioning ecosystems. Together with the metazoan community, the microbial community constitute the majority of all life in the benthos. LÄS MER
