  1. 1. Epithelial signatures in respiratory disease

    Författare :Elisabeth Ax; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; airway epithelium; inflammation; gene expression; extracellular vesicles; miRNA;

    Sammanfattning : The epithelium of the human airways protects us against harm and helps maintain immune homeostasis. In respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD, the functions of the epithelium are altered and can cause or contribute to disease progression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mast Cell-Mediated Orchestration of Airway Epithelial Responses in Chronic Respiratory Diseases

    Författare :Frida Berlin; Respiratorisk cellbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mast cell; Tryptase; Chymase; Bronchial epithelium; Respiratory diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma, are an increasing health issue worldwide and cause about 3.9 million deaths annually. Despite this, little is know about the molecular mechanisms underpinning disease pathogenesis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Antibacterial peptides - key players in host defense at epithelial surfaces

    Författare :Mette Eliasson; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucosa; epithelium; pharyngitis; Innate immunity; Streptococcus pyogenes; antibacterial peptides; IFN-gamma; CXCL9 MIG; chemokines;

    Sammanfattning : Innate host defense mechanisms at epithelial surfaces are important to prevent bacterial invasion. Streptococcus pyogenes, group A streptococcus (GAS), has an affinity for epithelial cells and cause pharyngitis. During streptococcal pharyngitis, high concentrations of the chemokines CXCL9/MIG, CXCL10/IP-10, CXCL11/I-TAC were found in tonsil fluid. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Vitamin A regulated neuronal regeneration and homeostasis

    Författare :Sofia Håglin; Anna Berghard; Staffan Bohm; Leif Carlsson; Ola Hermanson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Activity dependent; Adult stem cells; Ageing; CYP26B1; Homeostasis; Metaplasia; Neurogenesis; Olfactory epithelium; Regeneration; Respiratory epithelium; Retinoic acid; Sensory map; Vitamin A;

    Sammanfattning : The olfactory epithelium is a dynamic tissue maintained by continuous neurogenesis throughout life. Upon injury, neurons and other olfactory cell types are regenerated through proliferation of horizontal stem cells. Some genes that regulate vitamin A metabolism are spatially expressed in the olfactory epithelium. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Airway inflammation in "healthy" smokers. Relation to lung function and high resolution CT findings

    Författare :Ann Ekberg-Jansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; smoking; bronchoalveolar lavage; bronchial biopsies; cytokines; lymphocytes; computed tomography; lung function; respiratory symptoms;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to characterize the inflammatory pattern in "healthy"smokers and relate it to lung function, high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings and respiratory symptoms in order to identify smokers at risk to develop COPD. Subjects were recruited from a population study "Men born 1933 in Göteborg". LÄS MER
