  1. 31. New strategies for multifunctional antibacterial materials

    Författare :Hengzhi Ruan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hydrogel; antibacterial coatings; multifunctional materials;

    Sammanfattning : Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are responsible for significant financial and human costs in healthcare systems. Therefore, a substantial amount of research has been devoted to developing biopolymer-based strategies that prevent bacterial attachment and biofilm formation on surfaces. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Miniaturised Bioanalytical Chemistry in Acoustically Levitated Droplets

    Författare :Sabina Santesson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; protein crystallisation; affinity two-phase partitioning; single cell analysis; bioanalytical chemistry; airborne chemistry; levitated droplets; Miniaturisation; acoustic levitation;

    Sammanfattning : Fuelled by the current demands of the biological sciences, there is today a growing interest in microscale analysis. Miniaturisation of analytical instruments has become a long-standing trend. Miniaturisation offers several advantages, including rapid separation times, high performance and throughput, reduced costs, etc. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Cyclotides evolve : Studies on their natural distribution, structural diversity, and activity

    Författare :Sungkyu Park; Göransson Ulf; Lars Bohlin; Mohamed Marahiel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cyclotide; cyclic cystine knot; evolution; peptide synthesis; chemical ligation; QSAR; Viola; Violaceae; phylogeny; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy;

    Sammanfattning : The cyclotides are a family of naturally occurring peptides characterized by cyclic cystine knot (CCK) structural motif, which comprises a cyclic head-to-tail backbone featuring six conserved cysteine residues that form three disulfide bonds. This unique structural motif makes cyclotides exceptionally resistant to chemical, thermal and enzymatic degradation. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Carbohydrate and metabonomic studies by NMR spectroscopy

    Författare :Gustav Nestor; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : NMR spectroscopy can be used to investigate organic and biomolecular structures, both as pure compounds and in complex mixtures. In this thesis NMR spectroscopy was used for carbohydrate and metabonomic studies. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Mixture toxicity of pesticides and biological effects in agricultural streams : field and laboratory studies

    Författare :Jenny Rydh Stenström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to examine pesticide mixture toxicity and its effects on aquatic biota in agricultural streams. This was accomplished by (1) calculating the ΣTUs for algae and Daphnia magna and a pesticide toxicity index (PTI) based on water quality standards (WQS) for long-term monitoring data (2002-2010), (2) by performing algal inhibition tests with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, using both collected in situ water samples and reconstituted water spiked with field-observed pesticide mixtures, and (3) by studying seasonal changes in macroinvertebrate and diatom communities during 2008 in four agricultural streams and determine a set of community-based metrics such as species richness, diversity, ASPT, SPEAR and IPS.
