21. The role of biological processes in base cation supply in boreal forest podzols
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes experiments designed to improve understanding of biological processes contributing to supply of base cations and other nutrients in boreal forest podzols. We used microcosms containing tree seedlings growing in natural substrates, a combination of direct measurements, modelling, stable Mg isotope analysis, and 13CO2 pulse-labelling. LÄS MER
22. Modern Computational Physical Chemistry : An Introduction to Biomolecular Radiation Damage and Phototoxicity
Sammanfattning : The realm of molecular physical chemistry ranges from the structure of matter and the fundamental atomic and molecular interactions to the macroscopic properties and processes arising from the average microscopic behaviour.Herein, the conventional electrodic problem is recast into the simpler molecular problem of finding the electrochemical, real chemical, and chemical potentials of the species involved in redox half-reactions. 23. Catalysis in Dynamic Systems: Control within Molecular Reaction Networks
Sammanfattning : Life as we know it is based on complex networks of biochemical reactions that constantly interact within large dynamic systems. The field of systems chemistry uses chemical models to study how reaction networks – and thereby life – function on a molecular level. LÄS MER
24. Electronic structure investigations of transition metal complexes through X-ray spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Catalysts based on the first-row (3d) transition metals are commonly seen in chemical and biological reactions. To understand the role of the transition metal in the catalyst, the element specific technique core level spectroscopy is used to probe the electronic structure and geometric properties centered around the metal site. 25. Building Blocks for the Assembly of Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : The natural world and many man made technologies are driven by self-assembly, involving the autonomous organization of individual components as a result of specific local interactions into functional structures. Self-assembly is a platform from which to construct materials with a high complexity, in high precision, with an inbuilt error- correction system due to its dynamic nature. LÄS MER
