  1. 6. Common variants in genes regulating free fatty acid metabolism and risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Martin Carlsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular disease; free fatty acids; genetics; UCP1; beta3-adrenergic receptor; beta2-adrenergic receptor; type 2 diabetes mellitus; FABP2; stroke; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with special reference to increased concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) in 1174 Swedish diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Common polymorphisms in the fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), the B2-adrenergic receptor (B2-AR), the B3 -adrenergic receptor (B3-AR) and the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1) genes were related to anthropometric and metabolic variables. 2. 7. Genetic and immunological control of human myasthenia gravis

    Författare :Xiaoyan Zhao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myasthenia Gravis MG ; beta2-adrenergic receptor beta2-AR ; CCR2; CCR5; cytolytic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 CTLA-4 ; OX40;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a classical autoimmune disease characterized by muscle weakness due to an immune attack against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) on the post-synaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction. Because of the involvement of multiple factors in the disease, the overall aims of this thesis were to uncover the regulation of candidate genes and the possible cellular mechanisms involved in the immuno-regulation of human MG. 3. 8. Studies on catecholamine function in human fat cells

    Författare :Lena Hellström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adipose tissue; human; catecholamines; lipolysis; adrenoceptors; mRNAhormone-sensitive lipase; hypo-caloric diet; thyroid hormones.;

    Sammanfattning : Human adipose tissue is a heterogeneous organ as regards metabolism. The effects of catecholamines, the main lipolytic hormones in man vary considerably in different regions. Fat cell lipolysis also changes in a number of physiological and pathophysiological states. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Adrenoceptors and nerve growth factor. Effects of electro-acupuncture and physical exercise in rats with steroid-induced polycystic ovaries

    Författare :Luigi Manni; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is complex endocrine and metabolic disorder associated with ovulatory dysfunction, follicular cyst and hyperandrogenism. The abnormalities detected in PCOS have been attributed to primary defects in the hypothalamic-pituitary unit, the ovarian microenvironment, the adrenal gland, and the insulin/insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 metabolic regulatory system. 5. 10. Effects of glucocorticoids or beta 2-agonists on inflammatory responses induced by organic dust in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Alexandra Ek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure of healthy subjects in a swine barn causes an acute inflammatory response in the airways and an increase in bronchial responsiveness to methacholine. The aim of this thesis was to study the mechanisms by which glucocorticoids or Beta2-agonists interfere with the inflammatory response following swine house dust-exposure both in vitro and in vivo.
