  1. 1. BDNF, impulsiveness and avoidant focused coping in suicide attempters

    Författare :LIVIA AMBRUS; Lund Psykiatri; []
    Nyckelord :BDNF; Aviodant coping; Suicide Attempters; HPA axis; Impulsvieness; BDNF; Avoidant focused coping; HPA axis; attempted suicide; impulsiveness;

    Sammanfattning : Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is an important protein for neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. In this thesis the role of BDNF, in suicidal behaviour was investigated with focus on possible risk factors for suicidal behaviour such as avoidant focused coping, dysfuntional personality traits like impulsiveness and hyperactivity of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis. Sammanfattning : Identification of symptoms or biological abnormalities that predispose to suicide or identifies specific vulnerabilities, may one day improve allocation of resources or help tailor treatment to the patient. Paper I: We compared the predictive value of symptom-oriented questions against direct questions about suicidality in assessing risk for suicide attempts. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neuroendocrine studies in suicide attempters and in hypersexual disorder

    Författare :Andreas Chatzittofis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Early life adversity is associated with increased risk of high psychiatric disease, suicidal behavior as well as risky sexual behavior in adulthood. Altered functioning of several neurobiological systems, like the serotonergic system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis associated with suicidal behavior, may stem from both genetic and developmental causes. 5. 5. Sleep, sense of coherence and suicidality in suicide attempters

    Författare :Nils Sjöström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Suicidality; repeat suicide attempt; sleep; nightmares; sense of coherence;

    Sammanfattning : A suicide attempt is a strong predictor of future suicide. The management of patients who self-harm presents a challenge for psychiatric services. It is therefore important to identify factors that may be related to increased risk of suicidal behaviour in suicide attempters. LÄS MER
