  1. 1. Variations in Functional Lateralization

    Författare :Peter E Wendt; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; posterior association cortex; prefrontal; DLPFC; regional cerebral blood flow; normal subjects; lateralization; asymmetry; performance; creativity; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; cognitive; ethanol; activation; visual stimulation; functional; verbal; divergent; spatial; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to study asymmetric activation of the neocortex in normal subjects, using the rCBF technique and different cognitive tasks. The aim was also to study individual and group variations of asymmetric activation, as well as factors pertaining to these variations. The thesis is based on four investigations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Brains, genes and environment of suicide attempters

    Författare :Fredrik Vang; Lund Psykiatri; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; suicide; attempted suicide; self-injury; factor analysis; psychometrics; suicide assessment scale; cortisol; hpa-axis; hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis; depression; adjustment disorder; serotonin transporter; 5HTTLPR; adversities; negative life events; globus pallidus; caudate nucleus; SPECT; MRI; volumetry; dichotic listening; brain lateralization; functional brain asymmetry;

    Sammanfattning : Identification of symptoms or biological abnormalities that predispose to suicide or identifies specific vulnerabilities, may one day improve allocation of resources or help tailor treatment to the patient. Paper I: We compared the predictive value of symptom-oriented questions against direct questions about suicidality in assessing risk for suicide attempts. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Sensorimotor function following anterior cruciate ligament injury : movement control, proprioception and neuropsychological perspectives

    Författare :Adam Grinberg; Charlotte Häger; Martin Björklund; Dario G. Liebermann; Clare Ardern; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ACL; knee injury; sensorimotor control; proprioception; functional test; fear; anxiety; kinematics; electromyography; EMG; electroencephalography; EEG; brain; neuroplasticity; injury prevention; Sports Medicine; idrottsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The high incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in sports suggests an involvement of both biomechanical and neurocognitive risk factors. Athletes are constantly exposed to challenging sports scenarios, which are often characterised by high-intensity movements combined with a multi-stimuli environment and continuous psychological pressure. 4. 4. Tolerance and injury mechanisms in the developing CNS

    Författare :Malin Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; neonatal; brain; PARP-1; tolerance; global gene expression; apoptosis; cerebral blood flow;

    Sammanfattning : The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the development of hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury has been the subject of extensive research yet a neuroprotective strategy to limit its progression is lacking.OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present thesis was to obtain a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in neonatal HI, specifically to study I) the involvement of Poly ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP)-1 in HI, II) the effect of hypoxic PC on brain injury and function after HI in the long-term perspective, III) the effect of hypoxic PC on global gene expression, in particular the involvement of apoptosis related genes, and IV) the vascular response to hypoxic PC.
