6. Power and Wake Dynamics of Hawkmoth Flight
Sammanfattning : Aerodynamic theory states that the power required to fly is related to flight speed with a ∪-shaped curve. This has been shown in vertebrates, but insects have been proposed to have a flat, or J-shaped power curve. LÄS MER
7. "We're made of meat, so why should we eat vegetables?" : food discourses in the school subject home and consumer studies

For example, food is used to build relationships, to mark hierarchies, to celebrate holidays, and to influence mood and self-image. LÄS MER
8. NO, Immunosuppression and Tumor Immmunotherapy
Sammanfattning : This study aims at clarifying the role of NO in the immunosuppression induced by in vivo tumor growth and by tumor immunotherapy, and determining whether the inhibition of NO production can be used as an adjuvant in tumor immunotherapy. We have shown previously that tumor cells, glioma (N32) and colon carcinoma (H1D2), when genetically engineered to express such immune stimulatory cytokines as IFN-g and IL-18, induce strong anti-tumor immune response, in immunized tumor-free rats, whereas only a limited therapeutic effect is achieved in rats in which a tumor has already become established. 9. Role of phagotrophy in freshwater phytoplankton
Sammanfattning : Some phytoplankton have the ability to combine phototrophy and heterotrophy within the same individual, which is called mixotrophy. In this thesis, I adress mixotrophy and competitive interactions of mixotrophs and obligate auto- or heterotrophs in relation to the availability of nutrients, light and prey. LÄS MER
10. Pikeivory: behavioural mechanisms in northern pike piscivory
Sammanfattning : Optimal foraging and prey preference in top predators may affect population and community dynamics and structure. Also, optimal foraging and prey preference may shift with prevailing conditions, and therefore create changes in the effect of predation. LÄS MER
