6. Redox effects on neutrophils in wound healing conducted by wound dressings and hyperbaric oxygen
Sammanfattning : The increased influx of neutrophils into chronic wounds results in increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), nitric oxide (NO) and lipid peroxidation products (LPP), as well as a ROS-induced increase in protease levels. The NO and LPP impair the respiratory burst response of the neutrophils and reduce their capacity to kill bacteria and digest debris. LÄS MER
7. Biological effects of glucose degradation products in peritoneal dialysis fluids
Sammanfattning : Background: It is well known that Peritoneal dialysis (PD) fluids have biological effects on a number of cells and tissues in the peritoneum and the peritoneal cavity. However, little attention has been paid to the influence of glucose degradation products (GDPs), formed during heat-sterilization and storage of PD fluids. LÄS MER
8. Studies on the regulation of leukotriene biosynthesis in antigen presenting cells
Sammanfattning : Leukotrienes (LTs) are pro-inflammatory lipid mediators with important roles in host de- fense and inflammatory disease. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) is a potent chemoattractant for neutrophils and contributes to bacterial killing, while the cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4 and LTE4) elicit increased vascular permeability, bronchoconstriction, eosinophil trafficking and mucus secretion. 9. Studies of prostaglandin E2 formationin human monocytes
Sammanfattning : Prostaglandin (PG) E2 is an eicosanoid derived from the polyunsaturated twenty carbon fatty acid arachidonic acid (AA). PGE2 has physiological as well as pathophysiological functions and is known to be a key mediator of inflammatory responses. LÄS MER
10. Characterisation of Some Immune Genes in the Black Tiger Shrimp, Penaeus monodon
Sammanfattning : The molecular mechanisms of the immune system in shrimp, Penaeus monodon, are completely unknown, despite its economic importance as an aquaculture species, especially in Asia and Latin America. The genes and their gene products involved in the prophenoloxidase activating system, which is considered to be a non-self recognition and defence system in many invertebrates, have been isolated and characterised in shrimp.
