  1. 26. Molecular and functional neuroanatomy of mood disorder circuits

    Författare :Antje Märtin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to interpret and react to external stimuli is essential for survival. An organism has to be able to predict a favorable outcome, and, more importantly, a non-favorable one that could mean danger for life. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Brain glycine receptors as a common target for alcohol and the relapse-preventing drug acamprosate - a preclinical study

    Författare :Pei Pei Chau; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcoholism; Acamprosate; Glycine receptor; Preclinical study; Dopamine; Ethanol;

    Sammanfattning : Alcohol abuse and dependence make up the most prevalent categories of substance use disorders in the world. Converging evidence from the current research group has identified two receptor populations, the glycine (GlyRs) and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the mesolimbic dopamine system, as two potentially important targets for the development of new medication to treat alcohol dependence. 3. 28. Cholinergic and dopaminergic aspects of dementia in Parkinson's disease: postmortem neuropathological findings and modeling of cognitive dysfunction in rodents

    Författare :Helene Hall; Brain Repair and Imaging in Neural Systems (BRAINS); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alpha-synuclein; animal model; choline acetyltransferase; cholinergic neurons; cognition; dementia; dopaminergic neurons; Lewy bodies; Parkinson s disease; magnetic resonance spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Motor symptoms are currently considered the first clinical hallmark of Parkinson’s disease (PD). They develop as a result of dopamine loss in the striatum, subsequent to the progressive neurodegeneration of dopamin- ergic neurons in the substantia nigra. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Influence of kynurenic acid on dopamine neurotransmission : implications for schizophrenia

    Författare :Alexandra Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Kynurenic acid (KYNA) belongs to the kynurenines, a group of metabolically related compounds derived from the amino acid tryptophan. It is an antagonist of glutamate- and α7 nicotinic acetylcholine (α7nACh) receptors. Increased levels of KYNA have been observed in the cerebrospinal fluid and postmortem brains of patients with schizophrenia. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Early life experiences and alcohol use in youth : An emerging role of the Vesicular Glutamate Transporters

    Författare :Maria Vrettou; Erika Comasco; Ingrid Nylander; Kent W. Nilsson; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Roberto Ciccocioppo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :alcohol; early-life stress; brain; early adulthood; expression; DNA methylation; glutamate; Vesicular Glutamate Transporters;

    Sammanfattning : Initiation of alcohol consumption usually takes place during adolescence, a period characterized by a plethora of physical and emotional changes. Towards early adulthood, hazardous drinking patterns can emerge and potentially lead to the development of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). LÄS MER
