26. The impact of viral vaccines in immunosuppressed and at-risk individuals
Sammanfattning : Vaccines have saved millions of lives, but for some individuals with a defective immune system the protection may be uncertain. This thesis aims to assess the immune response following viral vaccines in immunocompromised patients and in other groups at-risk. LÄS MER
27. Roles in innate immune receptors : host – pathogen interactions and strengthening vaccines
Sammanfattning : During the past decades our knowledge of innate immunology has increased drastically. This has improved our understanding about how innate immune cells can distinguish self from non-self, commensal bacteria from pathogens, and how it affects later adaptive immune responses. LÄS MER
28. Hsp70 in immunotherapy : a potential vector in cancer and viral vaccines
Sammanfattning : New efficient vaccines against cancers and infectious diseases are in demand. In 1993 heat shock protein 70 (hsp70) purified from tumour was shown to elicit tumour protection in mice. It was also shown that the protection was not mediated by the hsp70 itself, but by tumour-specific peptides bound to the molecule. LÄS MER
29. Novel vaccines and antiviral treatments for enterovirus induced infections and disease
Sammanfattning : Enterovirus infections are common around the world and can impact people’s lives in various ways, causing pancreatitis, myocarditis, common cold and more. This thesis is focused on testing the effectiveness of new vaccines and an antiviral agent in the context of cystic fibrosis (CF) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). LÄS MER
30. More or Less IgE : Therapeutic Vaccines, Adjuvants and Genes and Their Effect on IgE Levels
Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an important mediator in atopic allergies. This thesis describes the development of a therapeutic vaccine against IgE and its effects in rats and dogs. The development of an assay to determine IgE levels in dogs, and the finding of a chromosome region in rats that affects IgE levels are also reported. LÄS MER
