16. Life-Cycle Costing : Applications and Implementations in Bridge Investment and Management
Sammanfattning : A well-maintained bridge infrastructure is a fundamental necessity for a modern society that provides great value, but ensuring that it meets all the requirements sustainably and cost-effectively is challenging. Bridge investment and management decisions generally involve selection from multiple alternatives. LÄS MER
17. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils
Sammanfattning : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program. 18. Fire safety design of road tunnels
Sammanfattning : This thesis can be described as a journey in performance-based fire safety design. Along the way questions such as what fire safety is, how it can be measured, whether we are posing the right questions, or engineer the best solutions, have arisen. LÄS MER
19. Public procurement of engineering services : Task characteristics, control modes and effects on adaptability
Sammanfattning : Previous research has emphasized the importance of engineering services and adaptability in the early stages of construction projects. Public clients usually procure engineering services from private companies, which makes their procurement strategies important in creating incentives for adaptability and innovation for the service providers. 20. Mechanistic-Empirical Modeling of Permanent Deformation in Asphalt Concrete Layers
Sammanfattning : Three mechanistic-empirical permanent deformation models were evaluated under Swedish conditions with respect to traffic, climate and materials using accelerated pavement testing and long-term pavement performance studies. The mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (M E PDG), the incremental-recursive mechanistic-empirical CalME model (CalME), and the PErmanent Deformation of asphalt concrete layer for ROads (PEDRO) model generally showed both useful features and limitations.
