2. Integration of the Nordic electricity grids : incentives, cost sharing and regional perspective in transmission investments
Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of this thesis is to study how the development of the electricity transmission grids in the Nordic countries can be given a stronger international perspective. This is a relevant issue for the further development of the regional Nordic electricity market. LÄS MER
3. Beamforming and timing design issues for a large aperture array radar applied to atmospheric research
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the work done by the author during the development of a Large Aperture Array Radar (LAAR) receiver for the EISCAT 3D project. The main focus was on digital beamforming of a bandpass-sampled wide band signal in base-band and the development of a picosecond-level distributed timing system applicable over hundreds of meters. 4. Mesoscale processes in the polar atmosphere : radar remote sensing, balloon-borne in situ measurements and modelling
Sammanfattning : Mesoscale processes (atmospheric phenomena with horizontal scales ranging from a few tens to several hundred kilometres and lasting from a few tens of minutes to a few days) have the potential to influence the chemical composition of the troposphere. Tropopause folds and mountain waves are two important types of mesoscale processes. LÄS MER
5. The solar wind protons inside the induced magnetosphere of Mars
Sammanfattning : Mars is an unmagnetized planet. Mars has no intrinsic magnetic field but has local magnetic anomalies in the crust. The solar wind, which is the plasma flowing from the Sun at supersonic speed, interacts with the magnetic fields of the currents induced in the conductive Martian ionosphere, deviates and slows down to subsonic speeds.
