31. Triggering and inhibitory molecules affecting target cell recognition by NK cells
Sammanfattning : NK cells were described originally for their ability to lyse certain tumor cell lines without prior immunization. MHC class I molecules have been shown to deliver a negative signal to NK cells preventing killing of target cells. This reaction is mediated via specific receptors on NK cells, referred to as KIR in man and Ly49 in mouse. LÄS MER
32. Chemical proteomics for drug target deconvolution and to study biological systems
Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry-based proteomics has become an irreplaceable method for the unbiased and system-wide study of protein chemistry. As modern proteomics methods can not only be applied to quantify protein expression levels, but also monitor changes in post-translational modifications, subcellular localization, turnover rate, and lastly protein structures, it has become a method of choice for drug discovery and dissecting cellular processes. 33. Neuroblastoma as a target for effector mechanisms of the immune system
Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common solid extracranial tumor in children. Despite intensive multimodal treatment, the prognosis for high-risk NB patients remains poor and therefore new treatment modalities are needed. The main aim of my studies was to assess NB as a target for cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL)-mediated immunotherapy. LÄS MER
34. Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha as a target cytokine in vascular disease
Sammanfattning : Inflammation plays an important role in atherosclerosis. One of the most potent pro-inflammatory cytokines is tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a), a cytokine identified to have a pathogenic role in chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). LÄS MER
35. Energy metabolism as a target for new treatment strategies in Huntington’s disease
Sammanfattning : Huntington´s disease (HD) is a fatal inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG triplet repeat expansion in the huntingtin (HTT) gene and characterized by cognitive and motoric dysfunctions as well as psychiatric problems. Accumulating evidence, however, suggests altered energy metabolism and a hyper-catabolic state as key features of HD pathology. LÄS MER
