6. Which Genes are Involved? - Statistical Planning and Analysis of Human Genetic Samples
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of six papers related to the statistical planning and analysis of human genetic samples. The first four mainly concern statistical methodology, while the last two are applied papers in genetics and medicin. In paper A an alternative method of estimating the locus specific sibling relative risk .lambda. LÄS MER
7. Pharmacological Studies of CHS 828 and Etoposide Induced Tumour Cell Death
Sammanfattning : Antitumour properties of the cyanoguanidine CHS 828 and analogues were discovered in 1997. CHS 828 is presently in clinical phase I/II trials. This thesis encompasses in vitro studies of the kinetics and mode of cell death induced in the human cell line U-937 GTB, by CHS 828 and the standard antitumour drug etoposide. LÄS MER
8. Multiple sclerosis linkage analysis and DNA variation in a complex trait
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis is a life-long disease affecting approximately 11.000 individuals in Sweden today. It is the second most common cause of neurological disability amongst young adults, only outnumbered by traffic accidents. Genetic epidemiological studies indicate that genetic factors contribute to the susceptibility of MS. LÄS MER
9. On Test Design
Sammanfattning : Testing is the dominating method for quality assurance of industrial software. Despite its importance and the vast amount of resources invested, there are surprisingly limited efforts spent on testing research, and the few industrially applicable results that emerge are rarely adopted by industry. 10. To be or not to be, unraveling molecular mechanisms for lineage decisions in developing blood cells
Sammanfattning : All hematopoietic cells originate from hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) residing in the BM. The process of differentiation, through which HSCs generate progenitors and subsequently mature blood cells has been extensively studied but many of the regulatory mechanisms involved remains elusive.
