41. Endogenous Type I Interferon Inducers in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases
Sammanfattning : Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have elevated levels of interferon (IFN)-α in blood and IFN-α-producing cells in tissues. In the present thesis, we investigate the mechanisms behind the upregulated IFN-α-production in SLE and also show that the IFN-α system is activated in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), with IFN-α-producing cells in the major affected organ, the salivary glands. 42. When systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) involves pain : occurrence and impact on daily life
Sammanfattning : Living with a rheumatic disease, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), can pose many challenges. SLE is commonly considered to be a chronic disease, often occurring in unpredictable flares with alternating low and high disease activity. The disease predominantly affects women, but incidence and prevalence differ across different populations. LÄS MER
43. Novel immunological mechanisms and factors in systemic lupus erythematosus-related cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a clinical syndrome of autoimmune origin. It manifests in diverse clinical and serological patterns and is considered to represent a prototype multisystemic autoimmune disease. The etiopathigenesis of SLE remains incompletely understood. 44. Exploring the Genetics of SLE with Linkage and Association Analysis
Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis has been to identify genes involved in the pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). SLE is a systemic autoimmune disorder, most likely caused by both several genetic and environmental factors. LÄS MER
45. The activation and regulation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in SLE : and possible therapeutic interventions
Sammanfattning : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, characterized by the presence of anti-nuclear antibodies and the formation of nucleic acid containing immune complexes (ICs), which can cause organ damage by deposition in tissues. ICs strongly trigger the plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) to produce interferon (IFN)-α, which potently activates the immune system. LÄS MER
