Sammanfattning : Congenital heart block (CHB) may develop in the fetus during pregnancy in Ro/SSA positive women. It is a rare but life-threatening disease and the most serious manifestation of neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE). The frequency of CHB in Ro/SSA autoantibody positive pregnancy is 1-2%, with a recurrence rate of 12-17%. LÄS MER
2. RNA-protein complexes as autoantigens : cell and molecular biology of Ro/SSA and disease associations of anti-Ro/SSA antibodies
Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies to the Ro/SSA and La/SSB antigens are present in sera from patients with Sjögren's syndrome (SS) and systemic ]opus erythematosus (SLE). The Ro/SSA autoantigen consists of a 52kD and a 60kD protein, complexed with one of four small RNAs. The La protein can also associate with the complex. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Lupus crythematosus (LE) is a heterogenous autoimmune disorder with many different clinical presentations. Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is subdivided into acute, subacute and chronic CLE. Population-based epidemiologic studies of CLE are lacking arid the pathogenesis is not fully understood. 4. Autoantibodies and the Type I Interferon System in the Etiopathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Sammanfattning : In sera remitted for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) analysis, the supplement of a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the conventional ANA screening by immunofluorescence (IF) revealed that one fourth of the individuals with IF-ANA negative, but SSA/Ro ELISA positive sera, had systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or cutaneous LE. Consequently, adding a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the ANA screening is valuable for the serological detection of ANA negative SLE/LE patients. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have elevated levels of interferon (IFN)-α in blood and IFN-α-producing cells in tissues. In the present thesis, we investigate the mechanisms behind the upregulated IFN-α-production in SLE and also show that the IFN-α system is activated in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), with IFN-α-producing cells in the major affected organ, the salivary glands.
