  1. 1. Localised corrosion and atmospheric corrosion of stainless steels

    Författare :Sukanya Hägg Mameng; Rachel Pettersson; Christopher Leygraf; Thomas Ladwein; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steel; localised corrosion; atmospheric corrosion; alloy composition; surface finish; surface roughness; surface treatment; surface orientation; contamination; chloride; sulphate; temperature; chlorination; exposure conditions.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This research is focused on defining limiting conditions for corrosion of stainless steels. The aim of the first part (Papers I-IV) was to understand the role of alloying level and environmental parameters on localised corrosion in aqueous conditions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads : Methods Development and Efficiency Studies

    Författare :Karin Edvardsson; Björn Birgisson; Andrew Dawson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Gravel road; dust; particulate matter; PM10; horizontal dust diffusion; deteriorations; maintenance; dust control; dust suppressants; efficiency; application rate; leaching; residual concentration; seasonal variations; salt solution; solid salt; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; lignosulphonate; polysaccharide sugar ; bitumen emulsion; rape oil; starch; surfactant; mesa; clay; fine material content;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 75 percent (300 000 km) of the total Swedish road network and 20 percent(20 000 km) of the national road network consists of gravel roads. One of the most significantproblems associated with gravel roads is traffic-generated dust emission, which contributes tothe deterioration of the road surface and acts as a major source of particulate matter releasedinto the atmosphere, thereby involving public economics, road safety, human health, andenvironmental quality. 3. 3. Studies on Airway Surface Liquid in Connection with Cystic Fibrosis

    Författare :Inna Kozlova; Godfried Roomans; Anca Dragomir; Marieann Högman; Isabelle Sermet-Gaudelus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cystic fibrosis; CFTR; airway surface liquid; ion content; anesthesia; mist tent therapy; Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most common fatal inherited diseases, most prevalent among Caucasians. CF is caused by a mutation in the gene coding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), which helps to create sweat, digestive juices, and airway surface liquid (ASL). 4. 4. Monitoring transport and fate of de-icing salt in the roadside environment : Modelling and field measurements

    Författare :Annika Lundmark; Per-Erik Jansson; Bo Olofsson; Ann-Catrine Norrström; Helen K. French; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chloride; De-icing salt; Groundwater; Modelling; Monitoring; Road; Roadside; Soil water; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Roads and traffic are a major non-point source of pollutants and may have severe impacts on surface water, groundwater, soil and vegetation. In cold climates, de-icing salt is one such pollutant that may cause increased chloride concentrations and induce other effects on the environment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Passivation of Austenitic Stainless Steel

    Författare :Lena Wegrelius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steel; chloride; molybdenum; passivation; hydrochloric acid; nitrogen; ESCA; dissolution;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to study the corrosion resistance and passivation of high alloyed austenitic stainless steels exposed to hydrochloric acid. The introductory section gives a background to the subject; electrochemical measurements and surface analysis by the ESCA-technique (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis). LÄS MER
