1. Measuring Programming Assignment Effort
Sammanfattning : Students often voice that the programming assignments are hard and that they spend a lot of time on solving them. Is this true; are we giving them too hard assignments and how much and what do they spend the time on? This is what we want to gain insight to. LÄS MER
2. Voronoi-Based Coding
Sammanfattning : The performance of a digital communication system can generally be improved by increasing the number of variables being jointly coded. In this sense, it is desirable to have, e.g., higher-dimensional quantizers, longer channel codes, and more users in a multiple-access system. LÄS MER
3. The Tropospheric Aerosol - Measurements and Modelling. Case studies in Tanzania and Southeast Asia and development of models for size resolved aerosol simulations on the regional scale
Sammanfattning : The tropospheric aerosol is a complex constituent of the atmosphere that has impacts on health and the climate. This thesis presents five different studies from Tanzania, Southeast Asia and Europe dealing with urban measurements of particle mass and elemental composition, regional scale modelling of ozone and particle mass of inorganic aerosols and development of modules for sea salt emissions and size resolved aerosol particles with aerosol dynamical mechanisms implemented in a regional scale chemistry and transport model (CTM). 4. On Soft Decoding and Robust Vector Quantization
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers vector quantization for noisy channels. Vector quantization (VQ) is an important technique for block-based source coding, with applications in, e.g., speech and image coding. LÄS MER
5. Provisioning Strategies for Transparent Optical Networks Considering Transmission Quality, Security, and Energy Efficiency
Sammanfattning : The continuous growth of traffic demand driven by the brisk increase in number of Internet users and emerging online services creates new challenges for communication networks. The latest advances in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology make it possible to build Transparent Optical Networks (TONs) which are expected to be able to satisfy this rapidly growing capacity demand.
