16. Platelets and their immunomodulatory roles during Streptococcus pyogenes infection
Sammanfattning : Sepsis and invasive bacterial infection is a major cause of human disease and death worldwide. Streptococcus pyogenes is one of the major pathogens responsible for bacterial infections, which range from mild to severe and life threatening conditions. S. LÄS MER
17. Immunoglobulin-binding bacterial surface proteins; biomedical tools and virulence factors
Sammanfattning : Many bacteria express immunoglobulin(Ig)-binding proteins that interact with Ig in a non-immune manner. Several of these Ig-binding bacterial proteins have been well characterized and are widely used as reagents for analysis and purification of Ig's. LÄS MER
18. Studies on Heparin Binding protein in bacterial infections
Sammanfattning : Infectious diseases remain a major health problem, where sepsis and other severe bacterial infections are common causes of morbidity and mortality, and are associated with high costs for the community. The importance of early and appropriate treatment of sepsis and severe bacterial infections has been underlined by many and since sepsis is more prevalent and has a higher mortality rate than for instance acute myocardial infarction, there is a need for improvement. 19. On the prognostic value of Heparin-binding protein in Sepsis
Sammanfattning : Sepsis causes major morbidity and mortality worldwide. There is wide consensus that biomarkers have an important role in sepsis research and patient care. Heparin-binding protein (HBP) is a neutrophil-derived, proinflammatory and vascular permeability-inducing protein and a promising novel sepsis biomarker. LÄS MER
20. Alpha-1-microglobulin, heme-binding protein, reductase and antioxidant
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes structural and functional studies of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1m), a 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein that is evolutionarily well-conserved and belongs to the lipocalin superfamily. The lipocalins are polypeptides of 160-190-amino acids that are folded into an 8-stranded beta-barrel forming a pocket with a hydrophobic interior. LÄS MER
