11. Regulation of cardiorespiratory homeostasis in adult and developing rat by catecholamines : effects of hypoxia
Sammanfattning : The aims of the present study were as follow 1) to characterise the neuroplasticity of sympathetic ganglia in the adult rat, after exposure to long-term hypoxia and/or axotomy of the superior cervical ganglion (SCG). The cellular distributions of TH (tyrosine hydroxylase, the rate-limiting enzyme in catecholamine biosynthesis) and VIP (vasointestinal peptide, which enhances the expression of TH) were examined. 12. Screening and Assessment of Distress, Anxiety, and Depression in Cancer Patients
Sammanfattning : Aims and Methods The overall aim was to evaluate methods of screening and assessment of distress, anxiety, and depression in cancer patients. Further, to evaluate effects of a psychosocial intervention and to explore changes of distress, anxiety, depression, and HRQoL during six months. LÄS MER
13. A nutrition intervention in men with prostate cancer : Exploring effects on bowel symptoms from radiotherapy, patient experience, and nutrient intake
Sammanfattning : Objective The main objective of this thesis was to explore the effects of a nutrition intervention on acute and late bowel symptoms in men with localised prostate cancer treated with pelvic radiotherapy (study I), participants’ experiences from receiving the nutrition intervention (study II), and associations with nutrient intakes (study III).Methods A total of 180 men with localised prostate cancer referred to curative radiotherapy targeting the prostate gland and pelvic lymph nodes were recruited to the trial. 14. Studies of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction to define protective mechanisms in asthma
Sammanfattning : Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) occurs in the majority of asthmatics following vigorous exercise. EIB is caused by a loss of water from the airways creating a hyperosmolar environment in the tissue that in turn triggers the release of bronchoconstrictive mediators. LÄS MER
15. Immunofluorescence Investigation on Neuroendocrine Secretory Protein 55 (NESP55) in Nervous Tissues
Sammanfattning : The chromogranin family is a group of acidic, soluble, and heat-stable proteins widespread in various neuronal, neuroendocrine and endocrine tissues, where they are subcellullarly located in the secretory granules, participating in the formation of the granules. Extracellularly, chromogranins may act as protein precursors, proteolytically processed to various small bioactive peptides. LÄS MER
