  1. 21. Presentation of Salmonella antigens by dendritic cells

    Författare :Ulf Yrlid; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; antigen processing and presentation; Dendritic cells; Salmonella; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : This study investigates the interaction between dendritic cells (DC) and the Gram negative intracellular bacterium Salmonella typhimurium. Using in vitro and in vivo approaches, the capacity of DC to directly and indirectly present antigens from Salmonella-infected cells, cytokine production by infected DC, and activation of bacteria-specific T cells was analyzed. 2. 22. Role of c-di-GMP signalling in bacterial-host interactions

    Författare :Agaristi Lamprokostopoulou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria have various ways to sense environmental signals and to adapt their behavior and physiology through different signaling systems. Secondary messenger signaling, amplified by enzymatic activity, rapidly transmits a signal in the cell, resulting in allosteric functional control. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Salmonella in pigs : infection dynamics of different serotypes

    Författare :Julia Österberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years several incidents of feed-borne spread of Salmonella spp. have been documented in Swedish pig herds, including serotypes previously not associated with pigs. In this thesis two feed-associated serotypes (S Cubana and S Yoruba) were compared with two serotypes commonly detected in pigs (S Typhimurium and S Derby). LÄS MER

  4. 24. It Takes Two to Tango : Bacterial heterogeneity and host cell features govern Salmonella infection

    Författare :Viktor Ek; Mikael E. Sellin; Francisco García del Portillo; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S.Tm) causes enterocolitis with significant worldwide morbidity and mortality. The general aim of this thesis is to investigate variation in host cell invasion mechanisms used by S.Tm across different host cell contexts, as well as the influence of bacterial cell-cell heterogeneity on invasion-relevant S. 5. 25. Regulation of bacterial adaptive behavior by the second messenger cyclic-di-GMP and host components

    Författare :Soazig Le Guyon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : To optimize survival and growth, bacteria have evolved adaptive behaviors that respond to relevant environmental signals. A switch from the motile to the sessile lifestyle is probably the most ancient behavioral transition of microorganisms. LÄS MER
